Are you interested in applying for German citizenship? Well you’ve come to the right place.

To be eligible for German citizenship you generally need an ancestor who was a German citizen and emigrated from the country after 1904. Over the past century or so there has been many changes to German Citizenship law which is quite convoluted. Historically German citizenship was passed down in wedlock through the father and out of wedlock through the mother. This occurred until 1975. In 2021 there was a new law passed which now allows children and their descendants to get German citizenship if born from a German mother as well, so long as the birth from the “mother” occurred after May 23rd, 1949.
